Amsterdam Canal Cruise

The Amsterdam Canal Cruise is our most popular experience and a solid introduction to the Dutch capital. The cruise takes 60 minutes from Damrak and Central Station, or 75 minutes if you board at Rijksmuseum. You will cruise through the heart of Amsterdam’s UNESCO World Heritage canal ring aboard a covered boat with a panoramic glass roof, suitable in all weather.

Your journey begins at one of three departure points — Damrak Pier 5, Central Station (Prins Hendrikkade 35A), or Rijksmuseum — and takes you past more than a hundred historic canal houses, each with its own story dating back to the Dutch Golden Age. The audio is available in 19 languages: English plays on the onboard speakers, and the other 18 languages run via a QR code on your own phone (free onboard WiFi, no app required). Headphones are not provided — bring your own or buy a pair onboard for €1.50.

Highlights along the route include the slender Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge), the grand Amstel River, the iconic Westerkerk tower, and the Anne Frank House. In the Jordaan district, the canals narrow into intimate waterways lined with houseboats covered in flowering plants, while the broader Herengracht and Keizersgracht offer sweeping views of some of the finest 17th-century merchant residences in Europe.

The boats are equipped with a bar serving Dutch snacks, craft beers, and hot and cold beverages. In summer, the retractable roof opens fully for unobstructed views; in winter, the cabin stays warm and cozy while still offering crystal-clear sightlines through floor-to-ceiling glass panels.

Whether you are visiting Amsterdam for the first time or returning for the tenth, the Amsterdam Canal Cruise reveals the city from a perspective no walking tour can match. Children up to and including age 3 travel free; reduced price for ages 4–12. Boarding requires 3 steps onto the boat, so this cruise is not wheelchair accessible. Pets are not allowed onboard and strollers cannot be brought on board for safety reasons.
